Unlike salmon, steelhead (especially larger ones) survive spawning and return to the ocean to spawn again in later years, making their life cycles complex and varied. This large female was caught near the mouth of the Columbia river and measures nearly 34" tip to tail.
It's impressive to imagine its story; surviving the Pacific ocean and returning to spawn again and again.
